Why This Trek
Kudremukh
Kudremukh gives you distance rather than density - the ridge unrolls ahead in full view for hours, so the climb reads less like a push to a summit and more like a long walk through changing light. The horse-face profile that gives the peak its name only really resolves once you're above the grassland line. Camping is not permitted on this route, so it stays a single full day, out and back to the same base.
Before You Book
- Forest access may require a valid permit.
- Authorised guide support may be mandatory.
- Departure depends on current route availability.
- Weather and wildlife conditions may affect access.
- Route and timings can change for safety reasons.
- Camping is only offered where currently permitted.
- Government ID may be required for permit registration.
- Final confirmation is issued only after operational verification.
The Trail
From the base near Kudremukh village, the trail alternates between open grassland and shola forest pockets, gaining height steadily rather than in one hard push. A run of false crests keeps the true summit hidden until close to the end. Forest access, route availability and permits are governed by the Karnataka Forest Department's Aranya Vihaara system and can change with the season - always confirm current status before booking.
- Rolling grassland ridges that stay open underfoot for most of the climb
- Shola forest pockets tucked into the folds between ridgelines
- Standing on Karnataka's second-highest point, cloud cover permitting
- A single committing day, not a multi-day expedition

Permits
Kudremukh National Park requires a Karnataka Forest Department permit, booked in advance through the official Aranya Vihaara portal. A daily cap on trekker numbers applies, and the route is periodically closed during the dry-season fire-prevention window - availability is seasonal and subject to change, so always confirm current access rules before booking.
Cancellation Policy
A ₹1,000 Booking Advance secures your booking request. Final confirmation is issued only after operational and permit verification. The advance is non-refundable and non-transferable, as it blocks your spot in the group.
If we cancel a trek due to weather, safety, or forest department restrictions, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.
Bookings are accepted until 40-45 days before departure, or until forest permits are filled - whichever comes first. Book early to secure your spot.
Notes
A certified nature guide is mandatory on this route per current Forest Department requirements.
Sustainability
We cap group size on this trek specifically because the grassland ecosystem is slow to recover from overuse.

Patchy to none for most of the route. Inform family before you leave.
Can we camp on the summit?
No - camping is not permitted on the Kudremukh trail. The trek returns to base the same day.
