Why This Trek

Yercaud

Yercaud is a good trek for people who want real forest and a real climb without a full day's commitment. The path is broad and easy to follow, which makes it a fair introduction for a first-timer, but the coffee-estate air and shola birdlife give it more character than a typical short hike.

Before You Book

  • Forest access may require a valid permit.
  • Authorised guide support may be mandatory.
  • Departure depends on current route availability.
  • Weather and wildlife conditions may affect access.
  • Route and timings can change for safety reasons.
  • Camping is only offered where currently permitted.
  • Government ID may be required for permit registration.
  • Final confirmation is issued only after operational verification.

The Trail

The trail climbs steadily from the Yercaud area through coffee-growing slopes and dense forest, crossing small streams before opening into shola grassland near the top. It ends at the Sri Shevaroyan Temple, the highest point on this stretch of the range, with panoramic views back over Yercaud town and lake.

  • A steady, well-defined climb through coffee estates and dense forest
  • Shola grassland patches home to endemic birds like the Nilgiri wood pigeon
  • The Sri Shevaroyan Temple at the range's high point, with views over Yercaud
