Why This Trek
Sonamarg-Vishansar
Not everyone has a week for the full Great Lakes traverse, and this shorter out-and-back to Vishansar and Krishansar is the honest alternative - same twin lakes, same Nichnai Pass, about half the days. We see it as a good first high-altitude trek in this region for someone who wants to test the terrain and the altitude before committing to something longer. We haven't run it ourselves yet, so we're not selling it as more settled than it is.

The Trail
The trail climbs out of Sonamarg through pine and birch forest, crosses Nichnai Pass into open meadow, and reaches Vishansar and Krishansar lakes before retracing the same route back - so the pass is crossed twice. This route sits in Ganderbal district, close to areas where local access rules can change with short notice, and the itinerary below reflects the commonly published route rather than one we've confirmed by walking it ourselves.
- Vishansar and Krishansar - twin alpine lakes reached without the full week-long Great Lakes commitment
- Nichnai Pass, crossed twice, as the trek's high point both ways
- Pine and birch forest giving way to open meadow above the treeline
- A shorter, out-and-back structure suited to a first high-altitude Kashmir trek

Inclusions & Exclusions
- Trek permit and registration coordination, once confirmed
- Authorised local trek guide
- Trek leader and on-trail first-aid support
- Tented accommodation and vegetarian trail meals for the duration of the trek
- Travel to and from Srinagar
- Personal trekking gear (shoes, backpack, sleeping bag, rain cover, etc.)

What to Carry
- Sturdy trekking shoes worn in well before the trek, not new out of the box

- Weather-based rescheduling, and any local authority guidance on access, takes priority over the published itinerary
- Group pace is set by the slowest member, not the fastest

This route starts in Ganderbal district and stays close to areas where local registration or seasonal access rules can change with short notice. We'll confirm the current permit and registration requirements with district authorities before this trek opens for booking.
Cancellation Policy
A ₹1,000 Booking Advance secures your booking request. Final confirmation is issued only after operational and permit verification. The advance is non-refundable and non-transferable, as it blocks your spot in the group.
If we cancel a trek due to weather, safety, or forest department restrictions, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.
Notes
Duration, exact campsites and permit process are drawn from commonly published route descriptions and have not yet been walked or confirmed by our own team. Treat all figures as indicative until verified.
Sustainability
Vishansar and Krishansar sit in meadows still grazed by shepherd families through summer - we plan to keep group sizes small and carry out everything we carry in, on a trail that already sees more traffic than most in this region.
