Why This Trek

Skandagiri

Skandagiri is short on distance and long on payoff - the climb is over almost as soon as your legs warm up, and then you're standing on a fort wall built for exactly this view. It's a good one for a first early-morning trek: the discomfort of the pre-dawn start is over quickly, and what's on the other side of it is worth losing the sleep for.

Before You Book

  • Forest access may require a valid permit.
  • Authorised guide support may be mandatory.
  • Departure depends on current route availability.
  • Weather and wildlife conditions may affect access.
  • Route and timings can change for safety reasons.
  • Camping is only offered where currently permitted.
  • Government ID may be required for permit registration.
  • Final confirmation is issued only after operational verification.

The Trail

The trail climbs steadily from Kalavara village through rocky, forested terrain to the fort ruins at the summit, gaining most of its height in the first couple of kilometres. Forest Department timings and route access are tightly regulated here, with entry organised into set slots rather than free access - always confirm current timings and booking status before planning a date.

  • A short, steep climb through rocky terrain to the ruins of a hilltop fort
  • Panoramic views toward Nandi Hills and the surrounding Deccan plains
  • A pre-dawn start timed to catch the sunrise from the summit

Permits

Skandagiri is a Karnataka Forest Department regulated trek, booked through the Aranya Vihaara portal for Chikkaballapur district. Entry is organised into fixed timed slots with a capped number of trekkers per slot, and a certified nature guide is mandatory - always confirm current slot availability and timings before booking.

Cancellation Policy

A ₹1,000 Booking Advance secures your booking request. Final confirmation is issued only after operational and permit verification. The advance is non-refundable and non-transferable, as it blocks your spot in the group.

If we cancel a trek due to weather, safety, or forest department restrictions, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.

Notes

Slot timings, guide requirements, and whether night trekking is currently permitted are all subject to change under current Forest Department rules - confirm before booking.

Sustainability

Entry here is capped by the Forest Department itself, which keeps foot traffic on the fort ruins to a level the site can actually absorb.
