Why This Trek

Savanadurga

Savanadurga is deceptively simple - there's no dense forest to navigate, no ridge to find, just a long stretch of bare granite and your own legs. That simplicity is the appeal: you can see exactly how far you've come and how far there is to go, which makes it a good trek for building confidence on rock without technical climbing.

Before You Book

  • Forest access may require a valid permit.
  • Authorised guide support may be mandatory.
  • Departure depends on current route availability.
  • Weather and wildlife conditions may affect access.
  • Route and timings can change for safety reasons.
  • Camping is only offered where currently permitted.
  • Government ID may be required for permit registration.
  • Final confirmation is issued only after operational verification.

The Trail

The trail begins with a short approach through scrub forest before opening onto bare granite slabs that make up most of the climb to Karigudda, the taller of the two peaks. The rock face gets hot and glare-heavy by mid-morning, so an early start matters here more than the distance suggests.

  • A sustained climb across open granite rock, with the trail visible for long stretches ahead
  • Views over Manchanabele Dam and the Ramanagara countryside
  • Ruins of a hilltop fort, once held by Kempegowda and later by Tipu Sultan's forces

Itinerary

  1. 1

Base to Karigudda summit and back

Early start from the base, a short forest approach followed by a long open climb across granite slabs to the fort ruins at the Karigudda summit, then a full descent back to base before the rock gets too hot to grip comfortably.

Inclusions & Exclusions

  • Forest permit coordination and authorised trek guide
  • Trek leader and on-trail first-aid support
  • Packed breakfast and trail snacks

What to Carry

  • Sun hat and sunscreen
  • 2L water capacity
  • Light gloves (for hand contact on warm rock)

Safety

  • Bare granite gets slippery when wet - this is not a monsoon trek
  • The rock face has real exposure in sections - loose footing has real consequences
  • Group pace is set by the slowest member, not the fastest
  • Heat and glare build quickly on open rock - an early start and sun protection matter

Permits

Savanadurga falls under Karnataka Forest Department regulation, with permits normally issued through the Aranya Vihaara portal. As of our research, access has been intermittently paused for re-assessment - always confirm current permit status before planning a date.

Cancellation Policy

A ₹1,000 Booking Advance secures your booking request. Final confirmation is issued only after operational and permit verification. The advance is non-refundable and non-transferable, as it blocks your spot in the group.

If we cancel a trek due to weather, safety, or forest department restrictions, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.

Notes

Permit availability for this route has reportedly been paused for re-assessment at times - scope and dates will depend on official status when we run this.

Sustainability

Bare granite has almost no soil to erode, but the scrub forest at the base is more fragile than it looks - we'll keep the group on the marked approach rather than cutting new paths.
