Why This Trek

Kedarkantha

Kedarkantha earns its reputation as a starter Himalayan trek honestly - the days are short, the gradient is kind, and the destination is still a real, snow-capped 3,810m summit. It's the trek we'd point a first-time high-altitude trekker toward before anything more committing, without pretending it's a walk in the park.

Before You Book

  • Forest access may require a valid permit.
  • Authorised guide support may be mandatory.
  • Departure depends on current route availability.
  • Weather and wildlife conditions may affect access.
  • Route and timings can change for safety reasons.
  • Camping is only offered where currently permitted.
  • Government ID may be required for permit registration.
  • Final confirmation is issued only after operational verification.

The Trail

The route climbs out of Sankri through cedar and oak forest to Juda Ka Talab, a small lake that freezes over in winter, then opens onto rolling bugyal meadows on the way to base camp. The final push to the summit is a pre-dawn climb over packed snow, steep in short bursts rather than sustained, with the descent dropping through a different forested valley toward Hargaon. Trail conditions and route sections are subject to current Forest Department access rules.

  • A snow summit reachable in under a week, with no technical climbing
  • Juda Ka Talab, a frozen lake camp ringed by cedar and oak
  • Wide bugyal meadows that turn into open snowfields by December
  • A 360-degree summit view of the Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch and Black Peak ranges

Permits

Kedarkantha lies within the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary. Forest entry permits are issued at the Sankri check-post and through the Divisional Forest Office at Purola, and are verified at trail checkpoints. This is a routine, well-established registration process rather than a discretionary one, but documentation requirements can change season to season - always confirm current rules before booking.

Cancellation Policy

A ₹1,000 Booking Advance secures your booking request. Final confirmation is issued only after operational and permit verification. The advance is non-refundable and non-transferable, as it blocks your spot in the group.

If we cancel a trek due to weather, safety, or forest department restrictions, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.

Notes

Duration, distance and altitude figures are drawn from published operator itineraries for this trail and should be reconfirmed once we run the route ourselves.

Sustainability

Kedarkantha's popularity puts real pressure on its bugyal meadows and campsites - we'll cap group size and stick to designated camps once we run this trek.
