Why This Trek
Chembra Peak
Chembra earns its reputation honestly - the heart-shaped lake partway up is the kind of view that photographs well and still surprises you in person, ringed by grass that turns gold-green depending on the light. It's a shorter day than most Western Ghats summits, which makes it a good match for a trekker building confidence rather than chasing distance.

The Trail
The climb moves through a band of shola forest before opening into rolling grassland, with the lake sitting in a natural fold of the hill about two-thirds of the way up. The final stretch toward the true summit is steeper and, under current Forest Department rules, generally off-limits to protect the ridge - most days end at the lake and the grassland shoulder above it, still well above the surrounding valley.
- The heart-shaped lake, Wayanad's most-photographed trail landmark
- Grassland ridges with views into Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on a clear day
- Shola forest patches on the lower approach
Itinerary
- 1
Base to heart-shaped lake and back
Early start from the forest checkpoint near Meppadi, climbing through shola forest to open grassland and the heart-shaped lake, then a full descent back to base. Forest Department rules currently keep the trail at the lake rather than continuing to the true summit.

Permits
Chembra Peak sits inside reserved forest, and trekkers need a Forest Department permit issued at the base camp on the day of the trek. Access beyond the heart-shaped lake to the true summit has generally been closed in recent years to protect the grassland ecosystem and wildlife corridor - always confirm the current boundary before booking.
Cancellation Policy
A ₹1,000 Booking Advance secures your booking request. Final confirmation is issued only after operational and permit verification. The advance is non-refundable and non-transferable, as it blocks your spot in the group.
If we cancel a trek due to weather, safety, or forest department restrictions, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.
Sustainability
Chembra's grassland is slow to recover from foot traffic, which is part of why the Forest Department now holds the line at the lake rather than the summit - a restriction we plan to work within, not around.
