Agasthyakoodam
Agasthyakoodam isn't a trek you fit into a weekend on a whim - the season is short, the permit process is real, and the reward is a forest that stays wild because so few people are allowed into it at once. For trekkers who want the Western Ghats at their most unmanaged, this is about as far as the region lets you go.

The Trail
The route runs from the Bonacaud forest checkpoint through dense reserve forest to the Athirumala base camp, covering most of the total distance, before a steeper final push to the summit and back the next day. The last stretch climbs close to a kilometre in elevation over a short distance, through terrain that shifts from forest to open rock near the top.

Bonacaud to Athirumala base camp
Report at the Bonacaud Forest Checkpoint for permit, affidavit and identity verification, then trek in to the Athirumala base camp through reserve forest. Overnight at the Forest Department camp.

Summit and back to Athirumala
Trek from Athirumala to the Agasthyakoodam summit and back the same day - the steepest section of the route, gaining close to 1,000m over a short distance. Second night at Athirumala.

Who Is This Trek For?
Fitness level required: high. Group size runs 4–10 people. Age range: 18–55 years.
The Kerala Forest Department requires a valid medical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner, issued within 7 days of the trek date, for every trekker without exception - this is a Forest Department rule, not just our own policy.

- The trail crosses genuine wildlife habitat - groups stay together and follow Forest Department escort rules
Permits
Agasthyakoodam sits inside the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve, and access is tightly controlled by the Kerala Forest Department. The trek opens for a short seasonal window only - typically mid-January to mid-February, around 45 days a year - with a strict daily cap on trekkers (roughly 100 passes a day, split between online and offline booking) issued through the Department's official portal. Permits require a medical fitness certificate and can sell out well ahead of the date - this is a real, binding restriction, not a formality.
Cancellation Policy
A ₹1,000 Booking Advance secures your booking request. Final confirmation is issued only after operational and permit verification. The advance is non-refundable and non-transferable, as it blocks your spot in the group.
If we cancel a trek due to weather, safety, or forest department restrictions, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.
Sustainability
The Forest Department's daily quota exists because Agasthyakoodam's forest can't absorb heavy footfall - we plan to work strictly within that cap rather than push for more slots.
